Design-build outdoor kitchens that extend your living space and add lasting value to your property.
Let’s build something amazing
Most backyard grills get used twice and then sit ignored — they are inconvenient, exposed to the elements, and disconnected from where people actually gather. A proper outdoor kitchen from H&M Gardening changes that. We build fully functional outdoor cooking and entertaining spaces with built-in grills, concrete or porcelain countertops, refrigeration, and bar seating — all designed around how you actually use your yard.
H&M Gardening has been designing and building outdoor kitchens across Chicagoland since 1995. Every project is owner-managed, built by our own crew, and constructed with materials selected to handle Illinois winters without cracking, fading, or degrading. We coordinate the full build from paver base to appliance installation.
H&M Gardening handles complete outdoor kitchen design and construction — from standalone grill stations to full outdoor cooking and entertainment complexes.
Stainless steel gas or charcoal grills set into custom masonry or metal stud frames with countertop surround, side burner, and access doors for storage and utilities.
L-shaped, U-shaped, or straight-run kitchen islands with bar seating, built-in storage, and outdoor-grade surfaces designed for cooking and entertaining at the same time.
Outdoor-grade countertops that handle heat, moisture, and UV exposure without cracking — installed level, sealed, and built to last through Chicagoland freeze-thaw cycles.
Built-in outdoor refrigerators, ice makers, trash pullouts, and weatherproof storage drawers integrated cleanly into the kitchen frame for function and finished appearance.
Wood-fired or gas pizza ovens, side burners, and specialty cooking stations built into the kitchen layout so you have full outdoor cooking capability beyond a standard grill.
Built-in fire pits, fire tables, and outdoor dining areas designed as part of the kitchen complex so cooking and gathering happen together in the same connected space.
We design and build complete outdoor kitchens with no shortcuts on framing, materials, or finish work — every kitchen is constructed to last through Chicagoland winters without issues.
An outdoor kitchen is one of the largest investments you can make in your backyard — and the difference between a kitchen that holds up for decades and one that deteriorates in three seasons comes down to materials and craftsmanship. H&M Gardening builds outdoor kitchens that are structurally sound, weather-resistant, and designed around how you use your space. Every project is owner-managed from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.

Basic outdoor kitchen installations with a built-in grill, counter surround, and countertop typically start around $8,000 to $15,000. Full outdoor kitchen complexes with refrigeration, bar seating, pizza ovens, and premium countertops range from $25,000 to $60,000 or more. The final cost depends on size, appliances, countertop material, and whether the kitchen is integrated with an existing or new paver patio.
For Illinois weather we use masonry or metal stud framing with cement board sheathing, concrete or porcelain countertops sealed for outdoor use, and stainless steel appliances rated for outdoor installation. These materials handle freeze-thaw cycles, moisture, and UV exposure without cracking or degrading. We do not use wood framing or indoor-grade materials in outdoor kitchen construction.
We coordinate all gas and electrical rough-ins as part of the outdoor kitchen build. Licensed contractors handle the gas line extension and electrical panel work, and we schedule and manage that coordination so you are not dealing with multiple contractors on your own. Rough-ins are completed before countertops and appliances are installed.
Most outdoor kitchen installations take between three and seven business days for the build itself depending on size and complexity. If the project includes a new paver patio base, that phase adds additional time before kitchen construction begins. We provide a realistic timeline during the proposal phase so you know what to expect from start to finish.
If you want a functional outdoor cooking and entertaining space that holds up through Illinois winters and actually gets used every season, we can design and build it. H&M Gardening has been building outdoor kitchens across Chicagoland since 1995.
